Caring for your Magnetic signs
Thank you for purchasing your magnetic signs from us. I am sure you will find these to be a valuable and enjoyable tool for work or play for may years to come.
Like anything there are a few rules to follow to get the best from this product. Feel free to print or save this for future reference.
Installing - The signs must be installed on a clean surface!! If it is dirty and gritty air could actually get under them and they may blow away while you are driving in extreme conditions! The best thing you can do is to clean and wax the area these are going on. If you do this they will not blow off. I must point out that it is very rare for one of these to blow off of your vehicle even if you do not take these precautions and it has never happened to me and I get into some bad weather.
I must stress the fact that if the air is cold and the signs are cold they may not want to adapt to the curve of the body sides of most vehicles. This is only important if you are putting them on in the cold and if they are already on there is not concern. It is actually best to leave them on all winter or until the vehicle is able to get warm. Be sure that the paint and the sign backs are clean if you are installing them in the cold and that they have fully laid down before you drive away or they may blow off if air gets under them. This is not an issue when the vehicle skin is warmed by the sun. Smaller signs like our 12” x 3.5” signs do this but when you get into the 18” x 10” or larger this can happen. (again, rarely).
I think the hardest thing about installing these is to get them on straight. The straighter they are the more professional they look. I use mine often and since these do not slide once they are on I usually attach the bottom edge first. I usually use any body line or door seem to eye these. Body lines near the lower part of a door or car body are usually the most pleasing to align to. Do not put the signs over any sharp body line. If there is any space between the metal surface and the sign you can loose them.
Care - If you leave these on your vehicle for long periods in the hot sun they will tend to “stick” to the body. This is normal but not desirable. If this happens just peel them off slowly and reattach them. Actually the baking sun is the signs worst enemy and the more sun the less sign life so if you can, do not leave them on your vehicle for long inactive periods of time in the sun unless you have to. Also, it is normal for your vehicles paint to slowly fade in the sun and if you leave the signs on all summer they will protect that area from the sun. You may end up with a permanent dark area on your door! These will get dirty. Generally just clean them with glass cleaner and a soft rag. I wax the face of mine as well a few times in the summer. If you do this do not wax them hard. Be a little gentile on the fine graphics. If they are covered with mud just hose them down.
Storage - The best way to store these is flat. The side of a washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer etc. You can roll these but store them vertically if you do.
Theft - Aha yes.... There are always those with and eye for a bargain and you may find a very unpleasant surprise when you come out of your hotel room ready to roll only to not see your nice magnetic signs ever again. This has happened to me personally. Even though all I had to do was make myself up a new set I had a week to go on the road with no identification on my vehicle. I ground my teeth about it the whole week! If you are in an unfamiliar area lock your signs in your vehicle when not in use especially at night! Your insurance may cover this so you may want to check with them in case of a disaster.
If you follow these simple instructions you and your signs should have a long and happy life together. Please contact us with any concernes. Click Here to send us an email.
